  • Update on LaRue Sports Park plans

    The LaRue County Parks and Recreation Board is moving along with trying to make a new sports park a reality in LaRue County.

    Park Board members Jason Detre and Daniel Thomas provided an update at the monthly luncheon of the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, March 21.

    Hoping for a breakout year

    The LCHS boys and girls tennis teams are both hoping to have a breakout year as both teams will mainly consist of upper classman.

    Coach Terry Caven said both the boys and girls teams lost a few seniors last year that have affected the team by having big shoes to fill. However, Caven said their rosters are once again filled with senior leadership that includes four seniors for the boys team and five seniors for the girls team.

  • Ivy Brown credits family support

    If there’s one thing that Western Kentucky University senior Ivy Brown credits for her success on the basketball court, it’s her family.

    “I grew up in the gym watching my older sisters play, going to every game,” said the current Conference USA defensive player of the year and 2014 Kentucky Miss Basketball. “My mom and dad coached all our little league teams and worked with us every chance they got.”

  • 2018 LCHS baseball preview

    The Hawks varsity baseball team hopes to bring home their fourth consecutive district championship and win the region tournament this season.

    The Hawks have dominated the district the past several years, but they have either lost in the first or second round of the region tournament. The last region championship for the Hawks came in 2003.

    The Hawks finished the 2017 season with a 21-15 record after beating Hart County 16-0 to win the 18th district championship and losing a close 8-6 game to Central Hardin in the opening round of the 5th region tournament.

    Golf Scramble

       The 24th annual LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the LaRue County Golf Course located at 1175 Greensburg Road, Hodgenville. For more information contact the Chamber at 270-358-3411.

    Pickle ball LaRue County

    A beginner’s class for pickle ball is being held at the Board of Education office on College Street in Hodgenville at 5 p.m. on Sundays. Regular sessions are held on Monday and Thursday at 5 p.m. All equipment is provided.

  • From the military to coaching

    I ran across a quote that says, “The quieter you become, the more you can hear.” This quote matches the persona of LaRue County Track Boys Head Coach and Assistant Football Coach Sonny Judd.

    Judd was born and raised in LaRue County and is a 1994 graduate of LCHS. Two months after graduation, Judd began an Air Force career. He is the parent of three kids. Trae (20), Savanna (14) freshman at LCHS and Ryker (7) kindergarten at ALES.

    The Lady Hawks varsity softball team hopes to continue to improve this year as they take on a tough schedule in the 18th district and 5th region.

    The Lady Hawks made huge strides last season as they finished with a 17-14 record with their season ending in the first round of the district tournament with a 13-4 loss to Green County. The Lady Hawks 2017 season was an improvement from their 2016 season when they went 13-21 with a 5-3 loss to Hart County in the opening round of the district tournament.
