  • Youth Baseball update

The Meade County 12-year-old All-Stars scored four runs in the third inning and held on to beat LaRue County, 6-4 on Tuesday in the Cal Ripken District 7 Tournament at University Drive Park in Elizabethtown.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, LaRue County cut its deficit to 5-4 as Wyatt Pearman had a two-run double and Bryson Arnette hit a two-run homer.

But Meade County tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.

  • Caven is runner-up at Tennis Open

Colin Hart, a KHSAA All-State selection this past season at Lincoln County, won the State Farm E’town Tennis Open Sunday at Freeman Lake Park.

For the second year, Hart fended off Campbellsville University coach Kyle Caven, a former LaRue County prep star, to claim the singles championship.

Caven, playing in his fourth match of the day, made Hart work hard to defend his title in Hart’s 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win in the 16-player division.

  • LCHS Students benefit from after...

When I was growing up, my mom and dad always told my brother, sister and myself to “go find something to do outside.” Anyone reading this article probably has been told the same as a youngster. We typically did so by shooting basketball, throwing baseball and football, and running up and down the street. This led to a genuine interest for me to be involved in extracurricular activities during my 12 years in school, and on the collegiate level.

  • Another Level Camp welcomes Clem...

Paul Handley hosted a free basketball camp for local children at his home in June.

“Another Level Basketball Academy,” provided four days of instruction to students from first-to-12th grade.

“The reason that I have this camp is a lot of young men don’t have the money to pay for a camp. I want to give back to the community – I’m never going to charge for a basketball camp, said Handley.”

According to Handley, the camp is getting bigger every year. This year, a few people from Indiana attended the camp.

  • Carol George to serve as sports...

In 2006 I had the opportunity to meet with a representative of the newly-formed Hardin Memorial Hospital Sports Medicine program. That meeting with Eric Oliver quickly became a great relationship with HMH and LaRue County High School.

Over the last eight years LCHS has been fortunate to be a part of the HMH Sports Medicine program. We have had great trainers since 2006, and are pleased to announce that Carol George will assume responsibilities this week as LCHS certified athletic trainer.

  • National motocross champ off to...

Not only has Reese Merrick, a 2014 LaRue County High School graduate, earned a diploma for his work in school, he also is the holder of state and national motocross titles, claiming his first when he was 7 years old.

“I was sitting in our living room, watching motocross on TV with my stepdad,” the 18-year-old Upton area resident recalled. “I wanted to do what they were doing, and I told him that I wished I had a bike so that I could do that.”
