  • LETTER: 31 donated blood

Thank you to the 31 individuals who volunteered to donate blood on Feb. 12 at the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. Two individuals gave using the double red procedure. We received 31 good units of blood and met our goal.

Thanks to Rob Brown, Becky Loyall and Linda Stearman for assisting at the drive and The Sweet Shoppe and Geneva’s Florist for items donated.

Many thanks for your support of the community blood drive which is sponsored by the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. The next blood drive is April 9.

Is there something that just sets your nerves aflame?

  • LETTER: Don't ignore headache pain

     Don’t ignore headache pain

Don’t let headache pain get ignored.

On Feb. 5, I had severe headache pain and didn’t go to work. My head was killing me.

About 12:30 p.m., I was at Dad and Mom’s house and started to lay down on the couch and my right leg gave away with me.

  • Just Ask: How do I stop the telemarketers from calling?

I seem to be getting a lot of telemarketing calls. I signed up for the no call list. Do I need to sign up again? Does it expire?

The numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 which became law in February 2008. First, make sure you are registered. After about a month, you can file complaints about telemarketing calls.

  • Through snow, rain, thank a mailman

The United States Postal Service has no official creed or motto. An inscription on the James Farley Post Office in New York City reads: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

  • Elections indeed have consequences

My friend, Wayne, and I often talk politics. It’s a safe zone for us because we have similar views and expectations. He recently reminded me of a notable quote from January 2009.

  • Memories of old dogs and children last a long, long time

Last Friday, I said goodbye to one of the best friends I’ve ever had.
