  • Tickets available for Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Dinner and play

    Tickets for the annual Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund luncheon are on sale at the LaRue County Board of Education.

    The luncheon is noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 at the LaRue County High School cafeteria.

    Tickets for the luncheon and a community play are $10. A limited number of tickets will be for sale at the door but advanced ticket sales allow more efficient meal planning. Call Rip Collins at 270-358-4111 for more information.

  • ECTC going tobacco-free

    On Sept. 4, Kentucky Governor Steven Beshear issued an executive order to ban all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, on properties owned or leased by the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, effective Nov. 20, 2014. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System, including Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, will follow this executive order.

    ECTC will fully implement the ban on Jan. 1, 2015.

    Kentucky Public Retirees to meet

    Kentucky Public Retirees, Lincoln Trail Chapter, will meet 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at Ryan’s, 1034 Executive Drive, Elizabethtown. Touch of Class will entertain with Christmas music.

    Senior Citizens music

    The LaRue County Senior Citizens Center, 112 N. Walters Ave., Hodgenville, has music beginning at 6:30 p.m. every Saturday.

    Musicians and singers are welcome.

  • Fitch enters doctoral program at San Jose State

    Betsy Fitch, the principal at Taylor Elementary in south San Jose’s Oak Grove School District, has a lot of diplomas — a marketing degree and an MBA along with a teaching credential and a master’s degree in administrative leadership, both from San José State.

    Now the 43-year-old is back in the college classroom while also continuing to work full time.

  • Hosparus Central Kentucky hosts remembrance service

     Hosparus Central Kentucky will host a holiday remembrance service at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Pear Orchard Road, Elizabethtown. The community is invited to attend to remember a special person who has died.

    Guests may arrive at 1:45 p.m. to begin personalizing ornaments in memory of their loved one. During the ceremony, guests will place these ornaments on a holiday tree. The event includes refreshments.

  • ANNIVERSARY - Sanders celebrate 65 years

    Earl and Elizabeth Sanders of Upton, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Dec. 3, 2014, at Opryland Hotel.

    They were married on Nov. 26, 1949, in Louisville. They have three children, David of Upton, Diane of Florida, Doug of Glendale, and one deceased, Donna Michelle Sanders.

    They also have 10 grandchildren, one deceased; and 13 great grandchildren and one deceased. 

  • Wedding: Carothers

    Bailey Brown and Tony Carothers joined in marriage on Nov. 15, 2014.

    The bride is the daughter of Frank and Cheryl Brown of Bardstown, and Kay Brown of Magnolia.

    The groom is the son of Willie and Christine Davis of Hodgenville, and Tim Carothers of Howevalley.

    The ceremony, attended by close family and friends, was held at Red River Gorge.

    Leeann Nall was the maid of honor. Jesse Benningfield was the best man.

    Jovan Bell had minor surgery recently. He’s doing well.

    Dr. Kevin Cosby and the Breakthrough Chorus will be at First Baptist Hodgenville at 7 p.m. Friday for the annual Hubbard Cemetery program. Please come out and listen to great singing and preaching from this powerful man of God.

    First Baptist will hold Senior Citizen Day on Dec. 14.
