  • Hawks magical season comes to an end

    After finishing the season with a 22-7 record, an 18th District Tournament Championship, and the first Regional Tournament Championship since 2003; the LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team traveled to Lexington on Wednesday, June 6 to prepare for State Tournament action. As they travelled through the square in downtown Hodgenville, a large crowd gathered wearing their Hawks blue/white in support of their home team.

  • LaRue dairies nearing the end of the road

    Things are looking dim for the last two remaining dairies in LaRue County as Dean Foods will no longer be accepting milk from them.

    Dean Foods, a Dallas Texas based food company and the nation’s largest fluid milk producer, sent a letter in March 2018 to around 100 dairy producers across eight states that stated they would no longer buy their milk as of May 31. Two of the dairy farmers receiving letters were Gary Rock and Mike Zahrndt, operators of the last two remaining dairies in LaRue County.

  • History of National Dairy Month

    National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. It was initially created to stabilize the dairy demand when production was at a surplus, but has now developed into an annual tradition that celebrates the contributions the dairy industry has made to the world After the National Dairy Council stepped in to promote the cause, the name soon changed to “Dairy Month”.

    Daily Activities

    The Senior Citizens Center in Hodgenville offers several activities daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. including a hot lunch (served at noon, on weekdays), nutritional education and exercise. Suggested meal donation is $2. Bingo is played at 10 a.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call 270-358-4235.

    New Action Office

    The LaRue County Community Action office is now located at 112 N. Walters Ave, Hodgenville (inside the Senior Citizens Center). This is a temporary location pending a move to permanent quarters. Office hours are now Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
