• Speech team takes sixth in state, Anderson makes history

    The LaRue County High School Speech and Debate Team competed last week at the Kentucky High School Speech League State Championship at the University of Kentucky.
    The team returned home with two individual state championships, several other honors, and placed sixth overall in the state.

  • Heil to be honored at ExCEL Ceremony

     A ceremony to honor Lauren Heil, LaRue County Schools’ ExCEL Award winner, will be 9 a.m. March 25 at LaRue County High School.

    Heil, who resides in Upton, is a special needs teacher at LCHS. She has been a teacher for 43 years.

    The Illinois native earned her master’s of arts degree in teacher leadership from North Park University in Chicago.

  • Last day of school is May 28

     The last day of school for LaRue County students will be Thursday, May 28 – as long as the weather cooperates and no more days are missed.

    The LaRue County School Board voted Monday to amend the calendar, making up days lost to snow. Students have missed seven instructional days this year – but will make up only six.

  • Schools upgrade digital infrastructure

     Freddie Newby knows a good deal when he sees it.

    So, when LaRue County School’s chief information officer happened across the Internet site, “DirecTV Goes to School,” he knew he had clicked onto something good.

    “(DirecTV Group Inc.) gave us 16 digital satellite receivers including some DVRs (digital video recorders) and 104 channels including some of the most popular instructional channels at no cost to the school district,” said Newby.

    The LaRue County School Board meets at 7 p.m. April 20 at LaRue County High School.

  • Chorus to present 'Beauty and the Beast Jr.'

     The LaRue County High School and Middle School chorus will present the musical, “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” this weekend.

    Chorus Director Amber Tucker said the cast and crew have been preparing for their debut and are “excited to put on the musical.”

    Dress rehearsals started March 14.
