    Several fifth-grade students from Abraham Lincoln Elementary School went to Sunrise Manor Nursing Home to give Valentine’s cards to the residents just before Valentine’s Day. The students had voted to do this project as their community service project for their 4-H club. They made homemade cards and went around to deliver them to all the residents at Sunrise Manor.

  • LCHS Academic Team advances to State Governor's Cup

    Six members of LaRue County High School’s academic team have advanced to state Governor’s Cup competition which will be March 14-16 at the Galt House in Louisville.

    “That’s the most I, as a coach for almost 20 years, have ever had qualify,” said Amy Loyall, head coach and school librarian.

    The team members qualified in regionals at Elizabethtown High School Feb. 14.

  • Schools closed Thursday, Friday

    LaRue County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

    Roads across the county are treacherous, with the LaRue County Sheriff's office and Kentucky State Police working wrecks attributed to slick roads.

  • Kentucky second in inappropriate teacher-student relationships

    Kentucky in 2014 had the second highest per-capita rate in the country of inappropriate relationships between school employees and students, according to a national study of media reports conducted by a former U.S. Department of Education official.

    Kentucky was just behind Alabama, which had the highest rate of cases in the country, and just ahead of Louisiana, said Terry Abbott, who was chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Education during the George W. Bush administration.

    The LaRue County School Board heard several personnel recommendations at its February meeting.

  • ECTC announces President's Honor List, Dean's List

     Elizabethtown Community and Technical College has announced the names of students who made the Dean’s List and the President’s Honor List for Fall 2014 Semester.

    The President’s Honor List is awarded to full-time and part-time students who are earning a 4.0 grade point average and successfully completing at least 12 hours of course work (full-time) or cumulative 18 credits for part-time.

  • Scholarships - March 4, 2015

     Leadership LaRue

    Leadership LaRue County will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from LaRue public or private schools, or an adult wishing to begin an educational program. Essay, high school transcript and letters of recommendation required. Application available at LCHS guidance counselor’s office or The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce. Deadline is April 1.

  • Local students honored by UL

    Several LaRue County students have distinguished themselves academically at the University of Louisville.
    Jasmine R. Dickerson earned a bachelor of science in the fall 2014 semester.
    Several students were named as dean’s scholars or to the dean’s list in December. Generally, a student who is a dean’s scholar has a 4.0 grade point average and a student named to the dean’s list has a 3.5 grade point average.
