• Double lucky Lottery winner

     Shalen Followell, 25, a college student in Elizabethtown, has only been playing the lottery a few months.  Recently, while at a Five Star Food Mart in Elizabethtown, Followell scratched off a $1 7-11-21Tripler.  That’s when he found he had won $2,100.

  • Spruel named Employee of the Month at Nationwide

     Gwen Spruel has been selected as the February Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since July 1978 and is under the supervision of Kim Beard in the trousers department. She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

  • Fort Knox declares businesses off limits to soldiers

     An order issued by the Department of the Army has made a handful of businesses off limits to Fort Knox soldiers.

  • Robey named executive director for Community Action

     Lynne B. Robey has accepted the position as executive director for Central Kentucky Community Action Council, Inc. Robey has directed several programs within the agency over the past 14 years.

    Central Kentucky Community Action Council, Inc. provides jobs for 267 employees, and operates programs in the eight counties of the Lincoln Trail Area Development District, including LaRue County, assisting more than 9,000 families including 24,000 persons.

    The agency is located at 332 Hood Avenue, Lebanon, KY.

  • Herald staff honored by KPA

     Members of The LaRue County Herald News staff received several awards from the Kentucky Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

    The Jan. 25 banquet highlights KPA’s annual convention at The Brown Hotel in Louisville.

    Editor Linda Ireland won first place for best spot news for her coverage of the Leap Day tornado; and third for best special section for “Fame.”

    The judges commented on the news story: “This in depth piece covers so much of the tragedy.”

  • Daniel Milby honored by Nationwide

     Daniel Milby has been selected as January Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    He has been employed with Nationwide since February 2007 and is under the supervision of Sandy Wheeler in the shipping department.

    He will receive an award for his dedication and service.

  • Jobless rate up in county for December

     Unemployment rates fell in 97 Kentucky counties between December 2011 and December 2012, while 21 county rates increased and two stayed the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s rate in December was 7.6 percent, up from 6.9 percent in November; and up from 7.5 percent in December 2011.

    Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 5.4 percent. It was followed by Fayette and Union counties, 5.9 percent each.
