    A local massage business is striving to relax and rehabilitate people in LaRue County through massage therapy.

    Keep in Touch Massage Therapy is located at Smith’s Plaza on 928 Old Elizabethtown Road in Hodgenville. They are open Monday through Saturday by appointment only.

    Owner Barbara Ruteck is a graduate of the Natural Health Institute in Bowling Green and she is a licensed and nationally board certified massage therapist. She said she made house calls and worked several other jobs before opening her business at Smith’s Plaza in 2005.

  • Keeping people comfortable for decades

    When Cliff Phelps started a Hodgenville business in 1933 that today is known as Phelps Heating and Cooling, the only cooling he offered was from his ice house.

    “Air conditioning didn’t come along here until the mid to late 1960’s,” said Cliff Phelps’ grandson, Jim, who owns the business on West Main Street. “A lot of my grandfather’s business consisted of installing coal-fired boilers as he also sold coal, tires, and ice.”

    A Hodgenville bookstore is encouraging reading throughout LaRue County.

    Lincoln’s Loft Bookstore is located at 25 Lincoln Square in Hodgenville. Their hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

    The bookstore has a wide variety of new and used books including autobiography, children, Christian, cooking, crime, current events, history, romance and several other sections. The store also features products for adults and children including Webkinz, Melissa and Doug toys, Elf on the Shelf and many more.

  • From Ag class to floral aspiration

    Erica Vaughn drove past the old white house at 618 South Lincoln Boulevard every day when she was a child and thought to herself, “I would love to live in that home one day.”

    Fast forward to the present, Vaughn now lives and runs her floral and gift shop out of that same house.

    Vaughn, a 2002 LaRue County High School graduate, became interested in floral arrangement while taking agriculture classes in high school.

    A Hodgenville hardware store has been serving LaRue County for several decades.

    Smith’s Hardware is located at 1018 Lincoln Farm Road in Hodgenville. Their hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. However, the store is closed the last Saturday of each month.

    Owner Steve Smith said the idea for Smith’s Hardware was established in the early 1950s with his grandfather Gerald “J.E.” Smith.

    Hinton’s Orchard and Farm Market is located at 8631 Campbellsville Road in Hodgenville. During the fall season until October 31, their hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. They are open from mid-April until Christmas.

  • Stitching up a storm with Stormie's Stitches

    Stormie Sidebottom started sewing for friends and family embellishing things such as baby quilts.

    Sidebottom worked at Akebono in Elizabethtown for 18 years, but saw there a demand for embroidered items and decided to branch out and open up her own shop.

    “I officially opened on Lincoln Days weekend two years ago,” Sidebottom said.

    Her shop specializes in the personalization of apparel, linens and purses with embroidery, monogramming, heat pressed designs and appliqués. There are thousands of designs to choose from,

  • Spur of the moment becomes a success

    The last thing Regina McDowell told her husband Gary was “Do not buy it.” when he left to check out an auction of the former Ed’s Stop & Shop. They had been handing out water and orange slices at the Tour de LaRue bicycle ride and Gary said he was just curious about the auction. “Next thing you know I called Regina and told her ‘We have a store!’”
