• Grain Field Day and Grain Yield Contests

    The annual LaRue County Extension Grain Field Day will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 at Fresh Start Farms, operated by Ryan and Misty Bivens. The farm is located at 4109 Sonora Road (KY 84) in Hodgenville.

    We will look at Extension’s corn and soybean variety plots on the farm.  They include 25 Roundup Ready corn varieties that were planted on May 15 and 27 Roundup Ready Group IV soybean varieties, double cropped on June 25 after wheat.

    4-H Poultry Club

    The 4-H Poultry Club will meet on Wednesday, August 12 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the LaRue County Extension Office. 

    4-H Teen Leadership Academy

    Applications are due to the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21 for teens wanting to be considered for the 4-H Teen Leadership Academy. The nine month leadership program is open to teens who are in grades 8 to 11. Only 5 people will be selected to participate from LaRue County.

  • Local Small Ruminant Profit School

      A Small Ruminant Profit School for interested goat and sheep producers will be offered locally this fall and winter. The School is a five session class course spread over a six months period.  It is designed for beginning sheep and goat producers, but all producers are welcome.

  • Soybean Promotion Board re-elects local farmer

    The Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board, the entity responsible for investing Kentucky’s soybean checkoff funds, re-elected Keith Tapp of Sebree as its 2015-2016 Chairman during the Board’s recent summer meeting.

  • 4-Hers participate in Kentucky Youth Seminar at UK

    Top participants in the local American Private Enterprise Seminar attended the state program known as Kentucky Youth Seminar.  The seminar was held in Lexington at the University of Kentucky Campus.  Participants were: Benjamin Locke, Shayne Wathen, Jesse Gehr, Nicholas Sullivan and JC Dunn.  Darrell Locke participated as an adult volunteer.

    Farmers Market – Last Week

    The LaRue County Farmers Market will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the last event of this year, Thursday, August 13, at 2533 Lincoln Farm Rd., Hodgenville. Several vendors will be participating and meal options are available. For more information contact the Extension Office, 270-358-3401. Stock up on local fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, beef, pork, goat and so much more.

  • Field day scheduled in Magnolia

    An agricultural field day will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28 at the farm of Brad Hines in Magnolia at 11945 North Jackson Highway. The purpose of the event is to display his recently installed Best Management Practices project to the community.

    The free event is open to the public and will feature tours of the installed best management practices, soil and water conservation demonstrations and information, games for kids, and lunch.
