    Ryan Bivens of Hodgenville recently completed nine years of service to the Kentucky Soybean Association, the maximum consecutive time a director can serve. Bivens, a soybean, corn and wheat farmer in Hodgenville, has been a driving force in the success of the association for many years.

    Bivens and wife Misty were named American Soybean Association/DuPont Young Leaders in 2004, which kick-started his involvement with the soybean association. He was elected to serve on the board by farmers in his region in 2008 and quickly moved to a leadership position.

    Arts and Crafts Explorers Club

    The 4-H Arts and Crafts Explorers Club will meet from 3:30-5 p.m. on January 27 at the Extension Office.

    Sewing Club

    The 4-H Sewing Club will begin meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 6 at the LaRue County Extension Office. The Sewing Club is open to any 4-H youth that have completed the beginners sewing classes. Participants are asked to bring a t-shirt to this meeting for an up-cycle project.

  • 4-H Shooting Sports Camp

    4-H members have an opportunity to learn about safety and shooting sports during the annual Shooting Sports Camp April 6-9 at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp.  

    Statewide, 120 members may sign up to participate, along with more than 80 adult and teen instructors and adult volunteers.  Shooting Sports Camp is for youth ages 9 to 13.

  • Will bitter cold temperatures damage wheat?

    Brutally low temperatures have been experienced in Hardin County early this week, along with gusty winds below 0 wind chills. This weather makes life on a central Kentucky farm pretty rough, and while farmers left to do the chores and the livestock take the brunt of the bitter cold temperatures, many are left wondering if damage will be done to our main grain crop growing this time of year- Wheat?

    The LaRue County Sheep and Goat Producers will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20 at the LaRue County Extension Office in Hodgenville. Officers will be elected and refreshments will be served.

    KY Commodity Conference

    The Kentucky Commodity Conference is the annual meeting of the Kentucky Corn Growers, Kentucky Small Grain Growers, and Kentucky Soybean Associations. The event, scheduled for January 15, 2016 is at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green.
