  • Kentucky Soybean Association keeps farmers busy through winter months

    Many people believe that farmers work hard from spring planting through fall harvest, then take the winter “off.” For the farmers who serve on the Kentucky Soybean Association (KSA) board, nothing could be further from the truth.

    “KSA keeps us pretty busy through the winter,” said President Jed Clark, who farms near Sedalia. “We conduct a lot of soybean business throughout the year, and March is a really busy month because we focus on interacting with our lawmakers at both the state and national levels.”

  • Advanced Master Cattlemen

    Producers in Hardin, LaRue and Meade counties will have the opportunity to participate in three Applied Master Cattlemen sessions this spring. These Applied Master Cattlemen sessions are more advanced and intended to build upon material from the Master Cattlemen program. They are also designed to be more of an in-depth and hands-on learning experience.

    BQA Training

    A Beef Quality Assurance Training Session is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 at the Hardin County Extension Office.  LaRue County producers that need BQA training are invited to attend.

    Extension Expo Booth

    The Annual LaRue County Extension Expo will be held on Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LaRue County High School Gymnasium.  Approximately 75 local businesses and organizations are planning to participate. For more information see the “B”section of todays newspaper.

    With the vast majority of Corn and Soybean budgets in the state of Kentucky showing losses for the 2016 growing season, many producers are looking for ways to cut costs in 2016. While there are many line items on the budget of a row crop operation, some things just cannot be cut without facing economic implications.

    4-H Shooting Sports

    The 4-H Shooting Sports Club will meet on Thursday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Haven Gun Club.  New members are welcome to attend.

    The 4-H Poster Contest deadline is Friday, March 18.  Contact the LaRue County Extension Office for more details at 270-358-3401.

  • Poster Contest Deadline Approaching

    The 4-H poster contest deadline is approaching. Posters must be submitted to the Extension Office by Friday, March 18. 4-H is the subject for the poster which can take any approach on any area of 4-H. Members can show what 4-H is, what they do in 4-H, or what 4-H has to offer. The poster may also be promotional to get youth to join 4-H.

    Every poster entry will receive a 4-H ribbon. Grade level winners will be selected for the 4th-8th grades and high school. Grade level winning posters will advance to the District Poster Contest.
