  • Brandon and Ashley Scott of Gleanings announce the birth of their daughter, Caroline Michelle.

    She was born Oct. 25, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    Maternal grandparents are Scotty and Robin Lee of Hodgenville. Paternal grandparents are George and Ruth Scott of Raywick.

    Great grandparents are Lois Hay of Eastview; Billy and Joyce Lee of Hodgenville; and Mary Dowell of Ekron.

  • Kevin and Melissa Hornback of Upton and Gary and Sharon Crewz of Sonora announce the marriage of their children.  

    The bride, Brittany Hornback, is the granddaughter of the late Jane and Jessie Dennis, and the late Edward and Dorthy Hornback. She is an employee of Subway in Sonora.  

    The groom, Justin Crewz, is the grandson of Sue Crewz of Sonora and the late Jerry Crewz; and Randall and Shirley Ramsey of Sonora. He is an employee of AGI. 

    The wedding was Dec. 7, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Sonora.

  •  LaRue County’s Relay for Life is looking for additional teams for the May 16, 2014, event at Hodgenville Elementary. To date, five teams have confirmed membership for the event’s $60,500 countywide goal including Nationwide’s Circle of Friends, Freedom Angels, Living Strong, Becky’s Team and Veirs Crew “Keeping the Faith.”  

  •  Anticipated inclement weather has led to the postponement of a Christmas program.

    First Baptist Church, 730 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville, planned the Christmas musical “Rejoice! God is with us!” for this weekend.

    Performances will be Saturday (Dec. 14) at 7 pm and Sunday (Dec. 15) at 6 pm.

    Rehearsal scheduled for tonight (Thursday, Dec. 5) will still take place.

  • Sunrise Volunteers helped residents at these special functions in November: Gary Rock’s fundraiser at Sportsman’s Lake and Addie’s Army fundraiser at Sunrise Manor.

  • In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, will host a free pre-diabetes education program beginning Jan. 14.

  • Roy Skaggs of Hodgenville shares this photo of his grandparents, Luke and Bessie (Skaggs) Skaggs, taken in the early 1900s. The couple was “courting” at the time the photo was taken. Luke was from Green County and they eventually moved to Hodgenville. Working on his family tree has been difficult since Bessie’s maiden name was also Skaggs, according to Roy.
