  • A radio beam shoots between two stations, and the pilot of the aircraft finds that beam, stays on course and lands at his destination.  

  • Claire Higginbotham, the 6-year-old daughter of Adam and Amanda Higginbotham of Lexington, was the winner of the Beaumont Branch, Lexington Public Library’s “Name the Crocodile” contest. There were 86 entries to name the mascot of the library’s reading program. Claire’s suggestion, “Ticky,” won. She received a special note from the library, a stuffed crocodile and a “Lile the Crocodile” storybook collection. She is the granddaughter of Bud and Linda Ireland  and great-granddaughter of Marie Parker, all of Hodgenville.

  • As I was looking through old photos of Hodgenville, there were several things that impressed me, but what impressed me most was the Christian Church. This church has been in the same location since 1877. 

  • Financial Peace University at Parkway Baptist

     Parkway Baptist Church, 325 Old Sonora Road, Hodgenville, will hold a 9-week course “Financial Peace University” beginning 6 p.m. Jan. 19. DVD lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing. For more information or to register, call Marty Sutherland at 270-268-3040.

  • The Elizabethtown Junior Woman’s Club made a donation of $500 to the Elizabethtown Fire Department. Proceeds were from Holiday Marketplace. Several of the women are LaRue County natives.

  • Eric and Melissa Williamson of Hodgenville announce the birth of their daughter, Ava Marie Williamson, born at 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2013. She weighed 9 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 1/2-inches long.

    Ava Marie is the maternal granddaughter of Beverly Veirs and the late Roy Veirs of Hodgenville. She is the paternal granddaughter of Glenn and Karen Williamson of Buffalo.

  • Angela Gail Morris and Kenneth W. DeVore were married July 21, 2013, at Hodgenville Christian Church. 

  • Melvin and Doris Dye Thompson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner held in their honor at Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church Dec. 29, 2013.

    The couple, married Dec. 28, 1963, have two children, Penny Viers and Darryl Thompson.
