    National Day of Prayer

  • Come To Jesus

Ours is a restless society. All about us there is a feeling of unrest. Jesus describes our day in Matthew 11:16-19.  He said that nothing could please them.  They were like children who could not decide what to play.  But what people could not find in pleasures, wealth, education, even in themselves, they could find in Jesus.  So, Jesus says, “Come unto me.”

  • The Truth About Eternity

1 Eternity is a reality for everyone. Each individual will spend eternity in one of two locations, heaven or hell. Unfortunately, many Americans have fallen prey to a plethora of deceptions that have blocked this truth from our minds and as a result many have fallen prey to sloppy understanding of what lies ahead. The truth is, each of us will exist forever and that location of existence will be based on our response to Jesus Christ.

  • Wait Upon the Lord

One of my favorite scripture verses is Isaiah 40:31, “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not get tired; they will walk and not become weary.” Other prophets used condemnation, but Isaiah tried a healing hand. The comfort was based on the fact that Israel’s sins had been confessed and forgiven.

  • Winners and Losers

How should we handle a victory? How should we act when we lose? Regrettably all of us have failed in our responses and reactions in competitive games, events, or votes. Our words and behaviors on such occasions may have even caused lasting damage to important relationships. Here are a few biblical tips to prepare us for our next loss, or future victory.

  • 48th Usher Day

Sunday, March 25, was a cool day, but regardless of the weather condition, the day was a full day at First Baptist as the Ushers celebrated their 48th Usher Day. The afternoon guest was the return of Reverend Jeff Williams and his congregation of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Smith Groves, Kentucky.

  • The Christian Story

The word “Christian” appears three times in the New Testament (Acts 11:26, 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16).  Some say the word was adopted by the followers of Christ and others say it was invented by their enemies as a term of reproach.  Most feel it was used to describe the followers of Christ because of the way they lived --- like a small Jesus or they showed the love and forgiveness that characterized Jesus.

  • May we be filled by the spirit

The Apostle Paul challenged the church in Ephesus to walk according to the Holy Spirit. This calling challenged believers to live in a manner that was controlled by the Holy Spirit instead of being under the control of the ways and influences of the world. In Ephesians 5:18 the Apostle Paul spoke to this truth when he penned, “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit.” In light of this passage, how can we be faithful in walking by the Spirit?
