• Our God Is Awesome

I get too busy for God. I get too self-focused away from God. I forget God in many moments of my day. Do you struggle this way too? We don’t reflect as often or deeply as to how wonderful He truly is.

God reminded me this week in Psalm 139 of how incredibly awesome He is. Maybe this will help you as it as helped me.

Our God Is Personal! He cares about the details of our days. He knows us inside and out. He watches us as a loving Father. He listens to our cries and hurts. He holds us, protects us, and comforts us with His strong arms.

  • Remember and Give Thanks

One day a few weeks ago, as my wife and I were riding down Ring Road in Elizabethtown, I suddenly felt an impulse to turn into the Nature Park where I had heard there was a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall.  The memorial contains the names of thousands of service men and women who lost their lives in a war, the value of which is still being debated.  The wall is very symbolic as it reminds us of lives lost in a distant country.

  • Walking In Step With The Spirit

In high school, I participated in marching band. One of the key components to marching rests in the necessity for each member to stay in step with one another. When an individual finds themselves out of step with the band, the entire show suffers. In a similar way, God calls believers to walk in step with the Spirit. When one becomes out of step, his or her life falls outside of the desires of the Lord for one’s life and as a result struggling ensues.

  • Rise Up and Walk

“‘Rise, take up your bed and walk.’  For 38 years the man had suffered and was unable to walk.  At the command of Jesus he rose and walked, his health was restored and his life transformed” (John 5:1-9).

The man was helpless and so, someone had to bring him to the pool in the morning and return for him at night.  This man is a picture of the lost sinner; he cannot do anything to help himself.

  • Men - Read This!

Men, we can change this community. We can lead better. We have failed and messed up. But our God is patient and loving. He desires to heal us and use us in powerful ways.

Be Humble. We have been arrogant. God warns us of pride even as we talk about sin. He reminds us to remain humble when we think about the fallenness around us, remembering that “such were some of you” (1 Cor 6:11). We should humbly consider our own sinful failures as men, husbands, fathers, employees, and employers. Out of this humility may we seek the face of our great God.

  • God Bless Mothers

“Mahalia, the wife of R. Adkins, she was the sunshine of our home.”  These words are on a tombstone in an old country cemetery.  I believe every wife and mother would like to be remembered in this way.

To be the sunshine of your home does not mean the world has to always revolve around you or that you must always  be on top of the world and smiling.  But the mother needs to provide warmth and light that each home needs.

  • Set Your Sights on Jesus

As a child, I recall teachers and other influential individuals challenging me to set my sights on a goal in the future and strive for that goal. They spoke of the importance of setting the sights to remain focused and centered while progressing toward a goal. Such a mentality guards against the threat of distraction or derailment on the journey.
