  • 5th In The State

    The LaRue County High School Band of Hawks narrowly missed making it back to the state finals for a second consecutive season.

    Last Saturday, the Band of Hawks traveled to Lexington for the 2018 Class AA State Semi-Finals Competition where they placed 5th out of 16 bands. Only the top four bands in semi-finals qualify to compete in the state finals for the state championship.

    Paint Night

    Parkway Peeps Relay for Life Team is hosting a Paint Night at Parkway Baptist Church at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13. There will be 10 door hanger designs to choose from. The cost is $35 and will include all supplies to paint, a hanger and ribbon. Payment is required prior to the event. For more information call Rita Thompson at 270-505-0380.

  • Turkey giveaway begins next week

    As you prepare for Halloween festivities on this Wednesday, it will then be time to switch gears and start making plans for the big Thanksgiving Day meal.

    Again this year, The LaRue County Herald News and participating businesses will offer the community an opportunity to win a FREE TURKEY.

    A full page of cut out coupon entries to participating businesses will publish in the November 7 and the November 14 edition of The LaRue County Herald News. You will simply cut off the entries, fill it out, and drop it into the bucket at the participating business locations.

  • Take a veteran to school

    The LaRue County Public Library is planning a different kind of Veterans Day event this year that follows the national program called “Take a Veteran to School Day.”

    The program was started and promoted by the History Channel. The event encourages schools to connect veterans with young people to hear their stories of service and learn more about Veterans Day. These events can range from a simple one-class visit with veterans to an all school assembly.

  • Pumpkin decorating winners

    The LaRue County Public Library had a tie for the winners of their 2018 Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Tied for first place was Ashley McCarol and Evan Ragland. The pumpkins were inspired by the books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Hank the Cowdog. The winners received free passes to Crawford Farms courtesy of Crawford Farms.

    Apple Surprise

    1 (8 Oz) cream cheese, softened

    3/4 cup packed brown sugar

    1 tsp vanilla

    6 apples, cut into wedges

    1 cup chopped walnuts

    In small bowl, combine first 3 ingredients, beat until smooth. Spread mixture on apple wedges. Place on plate. Sprinkle walnuts over wedges.

    Thanks to those who contributed and helped in our first “Trunk or Treat.” It was a great success and a nice turnout of youth and parents throughout the community attended.

    Debbie Dorsey-Jones, Mildred Dorsey Thompson and Arneva Smith attended the Prayer Breakfast last Saturday morning at Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington.

    The 18th Anniversary of Elder Jerry and Rosalyn Wilkinson was another great day as their son Elder Nehemiah Wilkinson was the morning preacher. A lot of family accompanied him and the pastor.
