  • Sunglasses long term eye protection

    Wearing sunglasses in the summer may seem like a no-brainer, but not all sunglasses provide protection from ultraviolet rays and not all adults wear them like they should. According to The Vision Council, 65 percent of American adults view a pair of sunglasses as a fashion accessory rather than a health necessity. One in four adults rarely or never wear sunglasses when going outside, with millennials, adults born between 1981 and 1996, being the least likely to wear sunglasses always or often.

  • School supplies for children in need

    Members of LaRue County Schools and the LaRue County Community Action Center helped distribute backpacks and school supplies on August 4 to children who qualified. The Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund items includes a backpack, LaRue County Schools t-shirt, basic school supplies, three pairs of underwear, three pairs of socks and a pair of tennis shoes. Shown above are those who helped distribute the items.

  • Cooking Corner - Cake Mix Berry Cobbler

    CAKE MIX BERRY COBBLER

    18.25 oz box yellow cake mix

    24 oz frozen fruit of your choice

    18 oz Sprite/7 up/ Sierra mist

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Spray 9x13 baking dish

    Pour fruit on the bottom of baking dish. Spread out evenly

    Pour dry cake mix on top of fruit

    DO NOT MIX

    Pour soda on top of dry cake mix

    Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until nicely browned.

    Let cool for about 15 minutes before serving.

  • Cancer Screenings sponsored by Extension Homemakers

    The LaRue County Extension Homemakers organization is sponsoring the mobile Mammogram unit from the James Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville to be at the Extension Office at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road in Hodgenville on Tuesday, September 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To qualify for a screening mammogram on the unit a woman must: be age 40 or over, not have breast implants and not be pregnant or breast-feeding.

  • Ragbrai Bicycle tour

    Ragbrai, is an annual seven-day bicycle tour across Iowa. Ragbrai is the oldest multi-day bicycle tour in the country. The tour is seven days and 480 miles long.It runs from Sioux City, Iowa, at the Missouri River to Davenoport, Iowa at the Mississippi River. Participants dip the back wheel of their bicycle in the Missouri River at the beginning and their front wheel in the Mississippi River at the end.

    School starts this week, hoping everything goes smoothly. Bus routes will be on timely schedule for the children. Please be sure to obey the law where the school buses are concerned. Here’s to all the teachers, hope you have another great and successful school year. To the students, enjoy the school year and put your best foot forward and learn all you can.

    Saturday, August 1 was the Barbour/Jordon/Thompson Family Reunion at The Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. Sunday, August 2 was the Church Anniversary and Annual Homecoming at Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Campbellsville. Rev. Jerry and Rosalyn Wilkinson and John Smith attended the General Association of Kentucky Baptists held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Louisville.
