  • Guthrie visits Hodgenville

    Congressman Brett Guthrie came to visit LaRue County on Wednesday April 17, as the special guest speaker for the 51st Annual Lincoln Trail Area Development District Meeting Luncheon. He, along with the Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jenean Hampton, spoke at the event.

    Hampton spoke before the meal regarding what she has been doing as Lieutenant Governor. Hampton stated that the question she is asked most frequently is, “What does a Lieutenant Governor do?”

  • Allen chosen as next Director of Pupil Personnel

     

    In an announcement made late Friday afternoon, by LaRue County Schools Superintendent David Raleigh, Eric Allen has been named as Director of Pupil Personnel for LaRue County Schools.

    Raleigh stated, “It is my pleasure to announce that Mr. Eric Allen has been offered and has accepted the position of Director of Pupil Personnel.”

    According to Raleigh, the position became available following the announcement earlier this month of current Director of Pupil Personnel, Rip Collins’ retirement.

  • Survivor Dinner planned for April 23

    The LaRue County Relay for Life Committee is proud to sponsor the eighth Annual Relay for Life Survivor Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at First Baptist Church Hodgenville.

    The celebration is for cancer survivors, their caregivers, and guests. Along with the meal prepared by the Relay Committee, Ronnie Benningfield will entertain the group with some great, familiar piano tunes. Shirley Jaggers, County Chairperson will also share plans for the 2019 Relay for Life event for June 15 at Creekfront.

    Spring Blood Drive

    A spring blood drive will be held from 12 to 5 pm. on Tuesday, April 9 at the Hodgenville Woman’s Club. All types are needed.

    8th Annual Survivors Dinner

    The LaRue County Relay for Life annual ‘Survivors Dinner’ will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at First Baptist Church Hodgenville located at 730 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville. Reservations are required by calling 270-234-3309, and the deadline to RSVP is Friday, April 19. There is no charge for the survivors; guest are $10 each.

  • LaRue at KMEA Band Assessment

    The LaRue County Middle School seventh and eighth grade, and the LaRue County High School Concert Bands performed at the 2019 KMEA 4th District Concert Band Assessment on Tuesday, March 26 at John Hardin High School. Each band performed prepared pieces of music on the PAC stage in front of three judges and a live audience. Following the prepared performance, each band also sight-read a piece of music in a separate room for a judge at, which means the band was not shown the piece of music until asked to perform it.

  • LaRue County Clean Up Day This Weekend

    It is that time of the year. Temperatures are getting warmer, it is when most begin thinking about doing some cleaning or clean up around their homes and property. With spring cleaning comes the problem of where to dispose of unwanted items. That issue can be solved by the LaRue County Annual Clean Up event coming up this weekend.

    The Clean Up Day effort serves as a chance for people to get rid of large items such as furniture, computers, mattresses, vehicle equipment, fax machines, anything metal, and tires.

  • Lincoln Family Table at National Birthplace

    The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace is proud to display a table built by Abraham Lincoln’s father, Thomas Lincoln. Though it is unsure the exact year the table was built, the table was used in the Lincoln household. The Mary Todd Lincoln house in Lexington, Kentucky gifted the table to the park.

    Displayed near the table is a promissory note signed by Thomas Lincoln as a witness. Among other signatures are Joseph, Thomas, and Luke Mudd who were related to Dr. Samuel Mudd, a conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

    Kentucky 4-H is one of the most important and influential youth programs in our state and our county. Across Kentucky over 290,000 youth ages 9 to 19 learn about leadership, citizenship and life skills in “learn-by-doing” experiences such as communications and public speaking, through agriculture projects like livestock judging, science projects with robotics, 4-H camp, Teen Conference, and many other 4-H programs and activities.
