Update on LCHS boys and girls golf

By Ron Benningfield

First-year senior Jedidiah Wolford fired a team-low 46 as LaRue County High School’s varsity golfers (team score 205) fell to Central Hardin (150) on the par-36 front nine Thursday, Aug. 13, at Pine Valley Golf Resort.

“Every day, Jedidiah gets a little bit better,” praised his coach Rip Collins.  “He works hard and is a great leader.”

Other Hawk scorers included Cameron Dawson, 47; Austin Hite, 55; James Redding, 57; Jesse Hornback 60; Cameron Lasley, 66; Lane Meredith, 67; and Ezekiel Wolford, 72.

“Pine Valley is a tough course to play, and I told our boys not to get down if they shot above what they think they should have,”  Collins said. “They had a rough day, but we’re going to keep practicing, learning, and if they all stick with it, we’ll have a competitive team in a couple of years.”

Patrick Schirmer and Dustin Hicks, each stroking pars, paced the Bruins.

LaRue junior Hillary Eastridge carded a 51 while senior teammate Michelle Burroughs fired a 66 in the girls’ match.

“Hillary had a rough time out there, but she has the potential and ability to score much better, and she will,” said Collins. “Michelle has a great attitude and works hard at it even though she’s got a lot of irons in the fire.”

Caitlyn Wilkerson led the Lady Bruins with a 42.

LaRue’s girls play in the Grayson County Tournament Saturday, meet the Lady Bruins again at Pine Valley Tuesday, then host John Hardin Wednesday.
