Tessie Cecil retires as New Haven mayor

After 20 years of service, she decides to step aside

By The Staff

After 20 years as New Haven mayor, Tessie Cecil has decided not to run for re-election. The decision was hard, she said, because being mayor is not something she takes lightly. And that is precisely the reason she feels she has to give it up.

For the last couple of years, Cecil has been working the day shift at her full-time job, Heaven Hill Distilleries. That has kept her from being at City Hall during normal business hours, which she thinks is the most important time for a mayor to be available.
