Salon aims to stand out

Daniel Skaggs has been cutting, drying, styling, coloring, perming, braiding and treating hair for almost ten years. And although he is not new to LaRue County, his salon, The Best Little Hair House is new. The shop also offers manicures and pedicures.

He gave the salon its unusual name because “who doesn’t love Dolly Parton!” a reference to a 1982 movie starring Parton with a name similar to the hair salon. The salon is located on Old Elizabethtown Road in the former location of Choice Kut shop.

Skaggs is very pleased with the new shop that has been open since April. “It seems to have easier access. More accessible,” he said. He formerly owned and operated a shop at another Hodgenville location that had steps customers had to navigate. The new location is a comfort to Skaggs for the convenience of his customers.

He enjoys his good relationship with other local shop owners. For example, he filled in for another local shop owner who broke her ankle. “At least they didn’t have to go to E’town (for a haircut)” he said.

He has many regular customers of his own, of course. He is married to Sara Davis and they have a two-year old daughter who is one of his biggest fans. She requires Skaggs to do her hair at least once a week. “She’s a little jealous,” he joked.

He has enjoyed decorating, painting and improving the space occupied by the new salon. “I’m all about comfort. I want you to feel like you are going to someone’s living room,” he said. He wants customers’ experiences at the Best Little Hair House to be memorable.

Skaggs is also profoundly philosophical about both the salon and life: “To be irreplaceable, you have to be different.”

The shop, at 928 Old Elizabethtown Rd., is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The salon has an active facebook page. The business phone number is 270-358-5875..
