Photo contest returns

-A A +A
By Linda Ireland

Any happy snappers out there? We think there are – because we’ve heard from several of you this year, asking if – and when – we will hold our annual photo contest.

It’s on!

There are a few changes from previous contests.

We are accepting only digital photos this year. Scanned photos do not have the quality of digital – so it’s not fair to those entries. We apologize if this inconveniences anyone.

All entries should be emailed to laruephotocontest@hotmail.com – the same address used in previous contests. You can also bring digital photos on a CD or thumb drive to our office at 40 Shawnee Drive, Hodgenville.

Four categories are offered: Nature, People, Lincoln heritage and Other.

Nature includes animals, insects and landscapes; People includes portraits, posed or non-posed; Lincoln heritage is a broad category encompassing anything related to our favorite President; and Other is for anything that doesn’t quite fit the other categories.

There is a separate category for youth – those photographers 16 and under. The entry should include the photographer’s age to be considered in the contest.

A sample of winning entries will be published in a special section in August.

  • Contest is open to residents of LaRue County and surrounding counties.
  • There is no charge to enter
  • Images taken in LaRue County may receive preference in the judging.

  • All entries must be original photographs taken by the entrant.
  • The entrant must own rights to the image.

  • Send electronic images as jpg, eps or tif by e-mail attachment to laruephotocontest@hotmail.com.
  • Images can be brought on a CD or thumb drive to the newspaper’s office at 40 Shawnee Drive, Hodgenville KY 42748.
  • Deadline for entries is noon Friday, Aug. 2.

  • To be considered for an award, the photo must be accompanied with a caption plus the name, home address and telephone number of the entrant. The phone number will not be published.
  • If an entrant is 18 or younger, signed permission from a parent or guardian is required in order to consider their entries.

  • Photos may be black-and-white or color, glossy or matte.
  • All participants grant The LaRue County Herald News the right to publish or otherwise reproduce their submission in any print or electronic product produced by the company in perpetuity.

  • Each entrant is limited to two entries per category.

  • All participants age 16 and younger can be entered in the separate youth photography category. Those entries will be judged as a whole with one winner determined for the age group regardless of subject matter.

Each photo is judged on its own merit. Therefore, there may be multiple winning photos from the same photographer.
  • Judges reserve the right to include all first-tier photos in the Honorable Mention category which is not limited to a certain number. Decisions of the judges will be final.
