Allen’s Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc., at 1302 Old Elizabethtown Road in Hodgenville had its beginnings in 1962 while founder Ben Allen was a seminary student in Texas.

“Dad worked part time on air conditioners and heating while there,” said David Allen, with brother Steve the current co-owners of the company that employs over 25 people.

Alan Hardwick, sales manager, attributes the longtime success of the business to taking good care of its customers and employees and to continually working toward goals of improvement.

“We track our goals daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and long term, always with the customers’ best interest in mind,” said Hardwick.

The theme of the company Hardwick expressed is to give friendly and professional service in a respectful, clean and neat manner.

He emphasized the importance of proper installation and regular maintenance, pointing to a September 9 Consumer Report on air conditioning that listed key factors in unit reliability as home size and design, installation procedures, and duct distribution.

“The brand of the equipment doesn’t matter as much as the care and professionalism in installing and maintaining it,” Hardwick offered. “Most of the air conditioning compressors of almost any brand are made by the same manufacturer, and for the most part, the same can be said of fan motors.”

The key, he continued, is to thoroughly check the equipment during installation and regular maintenance.

“Each of our technicians goes through a 52-point on-site checklist,” he shared. “Forty-nine of the things on that list a customer wouldn’t even know about, but collectively they are of key importance.”

Hardwick said regular maintenance assures that a unit is less likely to break down and can save money on cooling and heating costs.
