New for the 2018-2019 4-H program year, an Advanced Teen Leadership Academy is being offered. The original Teen Leadership Academy has been conducted for over ten years.

At the graduation ceremony, multiple participants and parents stated that they wished there was an opportunity to do TLA again so they could continue to learn and build their leadership and communication skills.  The 4-H Agents decided to give it a try this year and invite any TLA graduate that is still in high school to participate in an Advanced Teen Leadership Academy.

The cost to participants is $40 and will include a shirt as well as meals for all monthly sessions.  The local 4-H Council will also be paying $25 per participant.  A maximum of five participants per county will be selected.  The format will be similar to the original Teen Leadership Academy.

Monthly sessions will be held in September through April on the last Monday of the month.  The session topics will be the core content areas for 4-H:  agriculture, family and consumer sciences, communications and expressive arts, health, leadership, natural resources and science, engineering and technology.  Participants will be excused from school for the days they attend TLA.

The Advanced Teen Leadership Academy will include a board of representatives including one delegate per county.  Participants will be required to present an extemporaneous speech on the communications day.  They will also be required to complete a project as a country group.  Applications are available from the Extension Office and online at http://larue.ca.uky.edu/content/4-h-youth-development.  The application deadline is August 31 with the introductory session being held on September 24.  If you have questions about Advanced Teen Leadership Academy or any 4-H program, please contact the Extension Office at 270 358-3401 or e-mail 4-H Agent, Misty Wilmoth at mwilmoth@uky.edu.
