By The Staff

Local business persons have an opportunity to join local government, Main Street board members and staff at a workshop on economic restructuring March 19. The program will take place 1-5 p.m. at the Historic State Theater, 209 W. Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown.

Main Street staff and board members receive 1/2 training credit.

The session is free but reservations are required.

Leading the session is Josh Bloom from the Community Land Use and Economics Group, a specialized consulting firm that helps communities create vibrant, dynamic downtown and neighborhoods. The group helps local and state governments, developers and nonprofits design innovative downtown economic development strategies, cultivate independent businesses, recycle historic buildings, attract young talent, strengthen downtown management programs and craft planning and land use tools that stimulate town center development.

The training session includes market analysis for downtowns; assessing business owner needs;  using the property and business inventory; facade improvement programs; zoning tools for controlling downtown vacancies; and market strategies.
