The LaRue County High School cheerleaders took second in regional KAPOS competition Feb. 4.

The squad will compete in the state contest, large varsity category, 4:39 p.m. Saturday at Western Kentucky University’s Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. It’s the squad’s first trip to state since 2006.

Three other squads have competed at state. In 2001, the squad took third in co-ed competition.

“There are many talented cheerleading squads across the state,” said cheer sponsor Tara Wooden. “Just to be able to earn the opportunity to participate at KAPOS State At Large is an honor.”

Ninety-six squads will compete.

Squad members are: seniors Lindsey Boone, Jessica Cissell, Whitley Lawless, Ashley Sanders; juniors  Leeann Carothers, Danielle Evans, Savannah Hines; sophomores Nicole Carter, Chelsea Lee-Redman, Miranda Sutherland; freshmen Olivia Dulak, Erin Duvall, Whitney Graham, Megan Larrison, Whitney McDowell, Jordan Miller, Ashley Robinson, Kim Swears; and seventh graders Emily Armes and Taylor Dawson.

Boone was one of the Region 5 Libby Burr scholarship winners.
