KSP offers reminders about Urban Limited plates

-A A +A

With an alarming number of complaints being received, the Kentucky State Police would like to remind the public about the proper use of Urban Limited plates.
Urban Limited plates are for use exclusively on vehicles transporting property within the limits of a city or just outside the limits.
For first through fourth class cities, the vehicle is permitted to operate within the city limits or within 10 miles of the city limits. For fifth and sixth class cities, the vehicle is permitted to operate in the city limits or within 5 miles of the city limits. For example, Hodgenville is a fourth class city. A vehicle registered in LaRue County with a Urban Limited plate, which lists Hodgenville on the affadavit, will be allowed to operate in Hodgenville or within 10 miles of the Hodgenville city limits.
When applying for the Urban Limited plate, the applicant must sign the registration receipt. The applicant’s signature upon the registration receipt shall constitute a certification or affidavit stating that the motor vehicle when used within this state is used only for the transportation of property within the city to be named in the affidavit and the area above set out and that the vehicle will not be used outside of a city and the area above set out during the current registration period. The plates are available with weights of 22,000 pounds to 80,000 pounds.
Anyone with further questions may contact the Kentucky State Police at (502) 452-8983.
