The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Hodgenville are joining forces to form a First Friday – Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 5.

City of Hodgenville Mayor Jim Phelps worked with Chamber Director Sandy Kidd on the collaboration, deciding how the two entities could come together combining an Independence Day celebration and the Chamber’s First Friday into one event.

The First Friday/Independence Day Event will be held at the Creekfront Park in Hodgenville on July 5 starting at 6 p.m. and will conclude with the City of Hodgenville’s first ever Fireworks Show. Having the event on Friday evening “turned out to work best for everyone,” said Sandy Kidd.

Hosting Independence Day festivities on July 5 will allow food trucks attending other events to attend. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Rick’s Grill on Wheels, Juanito’s Street Tacos, Awesome Café, Wild Bill’s Hydration Station, and Kona Ice and Dippin’ Dots will be there to help beat the heat.

Classic rock band Old Soul Remedy will play live music from 8 to 10:30 p.m. The National Guard will provide an inflatable Boot Camp Challenge Obstacle Course in the Kids Fun Zone. There will also be giveaways, as businesses and organizations will set up tables, and a Photo Opportunity area will be available.

The event will conclude with the Fireworks show, which is planned to last around 20 minutes. “Come out and enjoy. This is the first time we’ve offered it,” said Kidd, “Joining with the city is just absolutely great, you can do more things together than you can individually, so I think that’s what makes this so unique. “

Parking will be along Tonieville Road, next to Creekfront Park, and on the Hodgenville Town Square. In the event of rain the First Friday festivities will not be rescheduled, but the City’s Fireworks Show will be moved to Saturday, July 6.

This event is sponsored by the City of Hodgenville, LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, Phelps Heating and Cooling, and Abe 93.7. For more information about Friday’s event, call the Chamber at 270-358-3411.
