Full Military Honors

World War II veteran Edwin Pickerell passed away on May 31 at the age of 99. He was given Full Military Honors at his funeral on June 4 which included a flag draped over his casket, a 3 round volley performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard, Taps played by a lone bugler, and the flag being folded and presented to the veteran’s family.


Pickerell served on the European front from 1940 to 1945. His unit specialized in reconnaissance and pontoon bridge construction. He constructed bridges for the infantry and demolished enemy bridges. He was awarded numerous medals including two purple hearts and a bronze star for his heroic service.
