Flowers and gifts for all occasions

When Tiffany Rucker sells flowers or some other of the hundreds of gifts at Geneva’s Florist and Gift Shop, she’s providing the customer with more than just the item.

“Whether it’s for a birthday, wedding, prom, or get-well-soon wish, it’s an occasion, an opportunity, for them to cheer someone up and make them feel better,” said Rucker, whose business is located at 106 North Greensburg Street in Hodgenville.

Even the decor inside the shop is cheery, with a pleasing aroma coming from scented candles, cuddly bears and other stuffed fur babies holding red valentine hearts, and various arrangements of flowers displayed on walls or on shelves of antique barn lumber.

“We make flower and silk arrangements and have gifts for all occasions and for all people from babies to senior adults,” Rucker said. “We can also fashion designs from what our customers want, including from photos they bring in.”

Geneva’s moved to its present location the second week of October, 2015, after having been at Lincoln Plaza for several years. Rucker’s father, Jerry Rock, bought Geneva’s in 2009 while she was a senior at LaRue County High School. She worked part time at the shop while learning flower design and gaining other essential knowledge for a florist until she took over the operation in 2011.

“While in high school, I had thought about going into the medical field and never even thought of being a florist,” Rucker acknowledged. “But, when I started working here, I learned to love it.”

The flower business is a family affair as Rucker’s sister, Kayla, owns Lawson’s Flowers and Gifts in Hodgenville and her father owns Flowers Flowers in Elizabethtown. Family members help out, especially during the busiest holidays.

“My mom (Melinda), Dad, and my husband, William, my brother Justin, and my sister Kayla’s boyfriend Tony Davis help out during holidays, either in the shop or delivering” Rucker said. “We deliver in LaRue and surrounding counties.”
