Fair Board/Stockholders to meet

A special called meeting of the stockholders of the LaRue County Fair will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23. The meeting was advertised in the LaRue County Herald News in the May 8 and May 15 editions, with the intentions of ‘the future options of the LaRue County fairgrounds’ as its agenda item.

The meeting will be held at Hodgenville City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

The fair board has recently come under scrutiny, after stockholders were informed that liens against the fairgrounds were in place following the nonpayment of the 2018 property taxes. It was later revealed that the fair board owed back taxes to the City of Hodgenville, as well as no payment to contractors and a water bill to the City of Hodgenville in excess of $4,000. In question is the repair and current state of the grandstands, with no answers and explanation of what has or hasn’t occurred on the property.

The water has been turned off to the property, and the power to the grounds has been shut off as well.

The previously announced fair to be held the first of June will not occur in 2019. However, interested parties are making sure a 4-H / FFA agriculture fair does exist, slated in late July, so those youth projects become eligible for the Kentucky State Fair.

The future of the fair is stated as the discussion for Thursday’s meeting.
