DAR to present 'Christmas in the Colonies'

-A A +A

Three local ladies will become members of the Captain Jacob VanMeter Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution at noon on Friday, Dec. 19, at the Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown.

The new members’ ceremony will welcome Nancy B. Raine, Betsy Tucker and Cynthia Carter of Hodgenville.

Don and Glenda Patterson and Lorinda Jones will present a program in their series, West of the Alleghenies, “Christmas in the Colonies”.

“Christmas in the Colonies” is the unusual story of colonial Christmas, its ups and downs, its variations and the vital role in the Revolutionary War. The story is told by Don Patterson mainly in the words of citizens who kept diaries, journals and comments. Glenda Patterson and Lorinda Jones will use period music and instruments including harp, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimers, glockenspiel, and recorder. Historical costumes are worn to enhance the presentation.

The meeting is open to all ladies of the community. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited so those attending are asked to contact Sharon Williams, registrar, at 270-307-6976.
