Chynna Michelle Shipp recognized by President

Chynna Michelle Shipp was among 110 students recognized by President Barack Obama for outstanding academic achievement May 24 at John L. Ramsey Middle School.

Shipp, a sixth-grader at the school, received the President's Award for Educational Excellence for earning a 3.5 grade point average her first semester. The award recognizes leaders who have transitioned well from elementary to middle school.

She was among 147 students to receive the United States National Leadership Merit Award for earning a 3.0 GPA their first semester.

She and 92 other students received the Academic Letter "R" Award for maintaining an A+ 3.5 GPA average for five grading periods.

Sixty-eight students, including Shipp, made the school's honor roll this year. Six students, including Shipp, had a 4.0 GPA.

Shipp is the daughter of Theresa and Julian Shipp, who is a Hodgenville native and former interim editor of The LaRue County Herald News and reporter for The News-Enterprise.

She is the granddaughter of Joan and Johnny Lee Shipp of Hodgenville.
