 Carl Henry Ford, 73, of Glendale, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

A native of Sonora, he was a member of Gilead Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and was recognized as a Hardin County Distinguished Educator. He started his career teaching eighth grade at Upton School and later became principal. In 1971, he became principal of Sonora Elementary School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Campbellsville College. He completed his Master of Arts and Rank I at Western Kentucky University.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. and Catherine Straughn Ford of Sonora; and two brothers, James and Walter.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Amanda Jane Ditto Ford of Glendale; two daughters, Carla (Patrick) Wallace of Elizabethtown and Clarissa (Eddie) Smith of Louisville; three sisters, Jane Wilson and Helen Greer, both of Louisville, and Mary Robinson of Mount Washington; a great aunt, Thelma Ford of Sonora; and five grandchildren, Justin Wallace, John Wallace, Ford Smith, Chelsea Smith and Liam Smith.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Gilead Baptist Church in Glendale with the Revs. Sam Hinkson and Mike Bell officiating. Burial follows in Glendale Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Manakee Funeral Home in Upton and continues from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
