Suspicious package found, determined a false alarm

Tensions were high in Hodgenville around 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 5 when emergency personnel responded to an alleged bomb threat at the LaRue County Fairgrounds that ended up being a false alarm.

According to LaRue County 911 Director Craig Dunn, a third party vendor came out to the fairgrounds to work on the AT&T tower that is located near the back of the property. Once inside, the worker called 911 after they found a suspicious package with black electrical tape and wires wrapped around it. Dunn said he is not sure how the package got there or why it was wrapped in the tape and wire.

Dunn said fire, police and EMS personnel were staged at a nearby store while authorities investigated the package. After further investigation, he said authorities discovered that the items associated with the package were electrical and not associated with any type of bomb.

The LaRue County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the investigation.
