BASEBALL: Hard-hitting Hawks keep winning

The Hawks picked up three wins in two days, running their winning streak to 12 by beating Grayson County, 5-3 on Tuesday, April 28 and sweeping an April 27 doubleheader with 18th District rival Caverna.
* Junior Colby Skaggs scored on a fielder’s choice and freshman Brandon Cecil scored on a sacrifice to lift LaRue County past the Cougars (15-7).
Sophomore Cameron Dawson hit a three-run homer in the third, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Grayson County tied it in the fourth.
Dawson struck out five in a complete game. He allowed three hits, two walks and one earned run.
* Freshman Dane Milby doubled, drove in four runs and scored twice as the Hawks rolled past the Colonels in Game 1.
Sophomore Matheo Lynn singled, doubled and drove in two runs, while senior Koy Lindsey doubled and drove in two runs. Thompson scored twice and drove in two runs for LaRue County, which scored all of its runs in the first three innings.
Junior Dalton Metcalf struck out five in five innings. He gave up four hits, two earned runs and one walk.
* LaRue County pounded out seven extra-base hits to pummel Caverna in Game 2.
Dawson went 4-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs, while Colby Skaggs had two doubles, four RBIs and one run.
Senior Robert Thompson singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Hawks, who jumped out to a 15-0 lead after three innings.
Skaggs struck out seven and allowed two hits in four innings.

Bethlehem
The homestanding Hawks fell into a four-run hole after three innings and saw their 12-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Eagles, who have won 16-of-19, including six straight. Bethlehem prevailed 9-4.
Senior Koy Lindsey went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single, while junior Colby Skaggs singled and drove in two runs.
Freshman Jaxon Boley took the loss, allowing 10 hits, six earned runs and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out two.
Greenwood
The Hawks have come back down to earth a bit following an 11-game winning streak, losing consecutive games for just the second time this season, as Greenwood was in control from the outset of Saturday’s game. Greenwood won 11-1 in six innings.
LaRue County was held to four hits – a double by Lindsey and singles by Thompson, junior Chandler Lynn and freshman Dalton Skaggs.
Junior Colby Skaggs gave up seven hits, four earned runs and one walk in three innings. He struck out one.
Greenwood’s head coach is Jason Jaggers, son of 1975 LCHS graduate David Jaggers and 1977 LCHS graduate Patty Turner Jaggers.

The Hawks defeated the John Hardin Bulldogs 7-2 Monday night.
Freshman catcher Dane Milby threw out three runners trying to steal.
John Hardin routinely got runners on base but couldn’t get them in, going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
