5th In The State

The LaRue County High School Band of Hawks narrowly missed making it back to the state finals for a second consecutive season.

Last Saturday, the Band of Hawks traveled to Lexington for the 2018 Class AA State Semi-Finals Competition where they placed 5th out of 16 bands. Only the top four bands in semi-finals qualify to compete in the state finals for the state championship.

“There was only 0.1 point difference between 4th and 5th place. Therefore, we missed qualifying for State Finals by 0.1 out of 100 points. This is the second closest margin for a band to not to make finals in recent KY Marching Band History,” Band of Hawks Director Alex Patterson said. “It was a heart-breaker for myself as well as the rest of our kids. Following the finalist announcement, I reminded the kids that much is risked when competing, especially when so much is invested. Yet, competition itself is what motivated us to achieve what we did.”

Patterson went on to say that he is proud of the Band of Hawks performance this season.

“I am extremely proud of our kids for completing a successful season in which we finished in the Top 5 of our state, top 3 in our class at a national regional competition and a distinguished rating,” Patterson said. “Thank you all for your continued support. I am already looking forward to next season. Please help me in congratulating our dedicated and hardworking marching band students.”
