Doris Jewell, owner of Jewell Box Fabric and Upholstry shop, has been living her dream for over 20 years.

Jewell said her husband, Ray, always wanted a farm so they bought a farm in Hart County.

“I married young and my mother-in-law taught me to sew; I’ve loved it ever since.” she said.

“I always wanted a fabric shop,” Jewell said, “We got the opportunity to buy this one and I added to it.”

Jewell opened up her shop, in what used to be a grocery store, in 1995.

Anyone who has a love of fabric, quilts and sewing will find themselves right at home at the Jewell Box.

They carry an assortment of fabric from fun tractor prints to elegant floral. They also offer a wide selection of sewing notions, clothing patterns and handmade purses and tote bags.

“We carry just about everything here,” Jewell said.

Jewell’s sister, Pat Prechtel, does the upholstery on everything from chairs, couches and child car seats. Jewell added they’ve even been brought a tent to fix.

It’s evident that Jewell loves quilting. They make and sell dozens of quilts and quilt tops from baby quilts to twin sized all the way up to king size quilts. In beautiful colors, you’ll find log cabin pattern quilts, lone star pattern quilts that come either machine quilted or hand quilted. They will also offer machine quilting for quilt tops brought in by customers.

“We’ve done custom quilts and we get a lot of people coming in to have T-shirt and keepsake quilts made,” Jewell said.

Working in the Fabric shop surrounded by family and friends is exactly where Jewell loves to be; “I love meeting people and we have a good time here.” Jewel said, “I’m living proof that you can live your dream, I get to come here every day and do what I love.”

They are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central time. They are closed on Sunday. Their phone number is 270-528-3087. Located at 10075 New Jackson Highway in Magnolia.
