    Though it may seem that spring may never come, one group of people is planning for better weather days as they host their first annual Living Strong 5K which will benefit the local Relay for Life.

  • 18th District tournament...

    The 18th District Basketball Tournament began Monday at LaRue County High School.

    LCHS Athletic Director David Dawson said last week he was “optimistic” that the tournament would take place as planned, despite the wintry weather. A contingency plan was developed – but ultimately, not needed.

    Monday, in the boys’ tournament, Caverna defeated Hart County, 88-63. Tuesday, LaRue battled with Green. The championship will be determined Friday, Feb. 27.

  • Wrestling tournament delayed due...

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association postponed the State Wrestling Championships due to wintry weather.

    The State Wrestling Championships, originally scheduled for Feb. 19-21, will be held March 9-11, according to a news release.

  • Carman named Wrestler of the Week

    B.J. Carman of New Haven was last week named the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) National Wrestler of the Week. The Saint Catharine grappler was chosen based on his performances Feb. 9-15. This is the seventh and final weekly award of the 2015 season.

    The 197-pound freshman is a graduate of LaRue County High School. He has a 24-9 overall record this season.

  • State Wrestling Tournament...

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association postponed the State Wrestling Championships due to wintry weather.

    “In the interest of the safety and welfare of our competitors, coaches, workers and officials, and to ensure that participation experience for the student-athletes is optimal, the KHSAA has postponed the State Wrestling Championships, originally scheduled for Feb. 19-21, until March 9-11,” according to a news release.

    Dates and times

    Monday, Feb. 23 - Girls #1 (Green) and #4 (Hart) at 6:30 p.m.

    Boys #1 (Caverna) and #4 (Hart) will begin 25 minutes following game (about 8:15 p.m.)

    Tuesday, Feb. 24 - Girls #2 (Caverna) and #3 (LaRue) at 6:30 p.m.

  • Mat Hawks take second in Region...

     

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks finished as runners-up in Friday and Saturday’s Region 2 Wrestling Tournament in Meade County.

    The team finished with 185.5 points, behind first-time champion and host team, Meade County.

    North Hardin was third with 172 points, while John Hardin was fourth (147), Apollo was fifth (117.5), Central Hardin sixth (115) and Fort Knox 11th (30).

    Nine Mat Hawks advanced to next weekend’s State Wrestling Tournament.

  • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks fall to...

    Lady Hawk senior Alyson Yingling had a team-high 15 points Saturday in the opening game of the Hillbilly’s Tease Valentines Day Shootout at the Dawg Pound.

    Yingling also pulled down 16 rebounds in the Lady Hawks’ 66-40 loss to John Hardin’s Lady Bulldogs.

    John Hardin was in control for most of the game, trailing just once at 5-4 after LaRue County’s Presley Brown buried a 3 off an assist from fellow freshman guard Mallory Williams with 4:01 left in the first quarter.
