  • Hawks crushed by Panthers, 41-0

    Freshman Kane Harris had a big game catching the ball Friday night for LaRue County. Unfortunately for the host Hawks, the guy who caught the second-most passes from LaRue County senior quarterback Caleb Sheffer doesn’t play for the Hawks.

    Elizabethtown junior cornerback Dalonza Cates, intercepted three passes from Sheffer, who entered the game second in the area in passing yards, to highlight the Panthers’ 41-0 win in a Class 3-A, District 3 game.

  • BOYS SOCCER: Nelson shuts down...

    Nelson County shook off Thursday’s heartbreaker loss in the district championship with a strong defensive effort by shutting out LaRue County, 2-0, in Sunday’s 5th Region quarterfinals.

    Nelson County (15-5) was able to nurse that one-goal lead until the 72nd minute, when Quinton Lyvers put in his team-high 16th goal of the season, giving the Cardinals all the insurance they would need.

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks advanced to the Girls’ 18th District Soccer Tournament championship — and secured a spot in the 5th Region Tournament — for the third straight year Thursday night.

    Sophomore forward Gillian Nunn, sophomore midfielder Hattie Ward and freshman forward Natalie Wolf each scored in a shootout, lifting LaRue County to a 4-3 win over Hart County in the district semifinals at Marion County.

    The Lady Hawks (10-7) advance to face Taylor County at 6 tonight.

    Senior defender Miguel Martinez and junior forwards Ethan Hawkins and Chase Watson each scored as the LaRue County Hawks held off homestanding Marion County, 3-2 on Tuesday night in the Boys’ 18th District Soccer Tournament semifinals.

    The Hawks (12-9-1) are back in the district championship — and the 5th Region Tournament — after missing out last season.

    Senior keeper Holden Blair made six saves for LaRue County, which beat the Knights (3-14-3) for the second time this season.

     Two Lady Topper Basketball practices during the preseason will be open for all season ticket holders and donors to attend on Thursday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Nov. 4. The practices are scheduled to begin at about 3 p.m. central time in E.A. Diddle Arena.

  • Kick it! Tournament benefits...

    A kickball tournament is being held to benefit The Walk to Cure Alzheimer’s. On Oct. 25, teams will gather at Creekfront Park and compete in a double elimination tournament. Kick for a Cause, hosted by the LaRue County Parks Department, will offer a chance for participants to have fun, as well as contribute to a great cause, said Bill Hawkins, a member of the park board and one of the event’s coordinators.
