  • Meredith sets record

    Madeline Meredith competed in the Kentucky 12U Long Course Meters State Championships July 15-17 at the University of Louisville.

    Meredith won gold in the 50 meter backstroke with a time of 30.94 seconds which set a new Kentucky state record for that age group giving her five Kentucky state records and one Eastern Section Southern Zone record.

    Meredith also won gold medals in the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle. She won silver in 100 meter backstroke and bronze in the 100 meter breaststroke.

    Annual Boys in Blue Kickoff

    The second annual Boys in Blue Kickoff will take place at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at the LCHS football field in Hodgenville. The free event will include an alumni flag football game and interactive competitions. It will also include a pep rally by the LCHS cheerleaders as well as introductions of the little league, middle school and high school football players.

    Over the next ten months LaRue County High School’s 14 athletic programs will play host to nearly 150 regular season events at the varsity, junior varsity and freshman levels. This community is very fortunate to have such loyal Hawk fans. I have mentioned before that LaRue County Athletic events are typically well attended compared to other schools.

    For nearly twenty years now high school football provides an opportunity for teams to hone their skills, along with competing in 7 on 7 games throughout the summer. Only the last two years the KHSAA has allowed teams to begin practices earlier, July 10 as compared to July 15, in order to focus on allowing teams to compete in 7 on 7 games throughout the state.

    Pickleball

    Pickleball is being played at 5:30 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays at the Board of Education gym on College Street. Pickleball is free to anyone interested in learning the sport, a combination of tennis and ping-pong. All equipment provided.

    LaRue County Park and Recreation Board

    The LaRue County Park and Recreation Board meets 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Park. For more information, call Eric DeVary at 270-358-8386.

  • Dawson commits to Morehead State

    Morehead State University was the first to start recruiting LaRue County senior Cameron Dawson and that loyalty paid off in the end.

    Dawson gave a verbal commitment to play golf at Morehead State next season. He will be able to sign a national letter of intent in November during the early signing period.
