  • Basketball: Hawks lose to Adair

    The LaRue County Hawks fell 67-32 Jan. 20 to the visiting Barren County Trojans.

    The Trojans (14-6) blitzed the Hawks (10-6) in the first half, outscoring them 44-17 and winning for the 10th time in 13 games.

    Senior guard Micah Wiseman paced LaRue County with 12 points, while senior forward Caleb Sheffer added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

    Sophomore guard Cameron Dawson scored seven for the Hawks, who had won seven straight.

  • Sandidge makes national cut

    Adam Sandidge and Joey Hartlage both competed in the NAIA Cross Country Championships Jan. 10 at the University of Kansas’ Rim Rock Farm.

    Sandidge, a freshman from LaRue County, finished 213th and Hartlage, a junior from Louisville, was 256th among the 320 runners.

    Sandidge’s time was 27:24.00 in the 8K, while Hartlage ran a 28:01.90. Both qualified for the national event based on their performance at the Mid-South Conference race Nov. 8.

    For the Highbaughs, tractor pulling isn’t just a hobby. It’s a lifestyle.

    David Highbaugh was runner-up at the Kentucky Invitational Truck and Tractor Pull on Jan. 2. Although runner-up is a prestigious placement, the veteran puller had won the pull in 2013 and 2014.

    David and his father, Lanny, are both from LaRue County and have been pulling competitively since 2004. For Lanny, this is his second go-round in the scene, as he also competed in the 1970s pulling four-wheel-drive trucks.

  • Lady Hawks split weekend games

    The Lady Hawks (7-11) split their weekend games, falling to homestanding Henderson County, 70-30 on Saturday and rolling past 18th District rival Hart County, 62-41 on Friday.

    Henderson County led by 17 after the first quarter and held the Lady Hawks to 39.1 percent shooting (9-of-23) from the field.

    Senior forward Alyson Yingling paced LaRue County with 10 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Mallory Williams added eight poitns and two assists. Junior guard Delany Eastridge scored six.

  • LaRue downs Adair, Hart

    The visiting LaRue County Hawks defeated the Adair County Indians 48-45 on Jan. 13.

    Senior guard Micah Wiseman was the high scorer for the game with 22 points, and hitting five of six free throw attempts. Senior forward Caleb Sheffer scored 9 points, followed by sophomore guard Cameron Dawson with 7.

    Seth DeVary and Dalton Metcalf scored 4 each; freshman guard Shane King scored 2.

    The Hawks hit 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts and six-of-10 free throw attempts.

  • Mat Hawks earn #2 seed for State...

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks qualified Saturday to compete in the prestigious State Duals tournament this weekend at Union County.

    The team earned a #2 seed in the small school division, going 5-1 on the day against Fort Knox, Nelson County, Thomas Nelson, DeSales, Holy Cross and Doss.

    LaRue County Mat Hawks Coach Eric Burrell said his team blanked Fort Knox, 82-0, and held Nelson, Thomas Nelson, DeSales and Holy Cross to six points.

    The team’s only defeat came at the hands of Doss, 31-39.

  • Century rides available for...

     The Kentucky Century Challenge highlights four of the most popular cycling events in Kentucky – the Redbud Ride, in London; the Horsey Hundred, in Georgetown; the Preservation Pedal, in Frankfort; and the Hub City Tour, in Elizabethtown. 

    Each event offers a “Century Ride” option of 100-mile routes. In order to complete the Kentucky Century Challenge, riders must complete any three of the four Century Rides. Riders who are successful will qualify for a special-edition Kentucky Century Challenge jersey.
