  • Annual Bike Trek to Shakertown...

    After 25 successful Bike Trek to Shakertown events raising more than $2.5 million to fight lung disease, the American Lung Association is still trekking after all these years. The 26th annual ride, presented by Kindred Healthcare, is scheduled for Sept. 17-19.
    Interested participants are encouraged to register now since space is limited and training opportunities are already underway.

  • Learning season ahead for young...

    It was hot in the LaRue County High School gym Friday, July 15 when the LaRue County Lady Hawks Volleyball Team had their first official practice and try-outs.  
    Head Coach Ben Schell took the Ladies through their conditioning paces. The workout was very strenuous with a lot of running and other exercises.  
    “Early in the season, we concentrate on conditioning and later on we’ll try to tie those conditioning skills to volleyball,” said Coach Schell.

  • 8’s progress in state tourny

    The LaRue County 8-year-olds All-Stars began pool play for the state tournament on Wednesday playing Beechmont.
    LaRue won 23-0, pounding out 27 hits in four innings.
    Brooks Bracket, Tripp Chapman and Derek Heath went 3-4. Bryson Arnett and Evan Morris went 4-4; Connor Baker went 3-3; Bryce Neagle and Clay Perry went 2-3; Daniel Snodgrass went 2-4; and Layne Gribbons went 1-3.
    In the second game the 8s beat Hikes Point 19-11.

  • Sportsman’s Lake a haven for...

    On Oct. 17, 1947, a group of LaRue County sports enthusiasts incorporated LaRue County Sportsman’s Lake on a parcel of land located off Highway 210 about three miles from Hodgenville.
    For several decades, the members of that privately-owned organization have enjoyed great fishing and other sporting activities in a place conveniently located for most of them.

    n The ATV and dirt bike rodeo will have signups 6 p.m. July 25 with classes for all ages. Events will begin about 7:30 p.m.
    n The tractor and truck pull will begin with tech starts 6 p.m. July 26. The pull starts at 7:30 p.m. Classes for farm stock, antique and trucks.
    n The demolition derby begins at 7:30 p.m. July 29. Divisions for big cars, little cars and lawnmowers.
