  • Hawks aggressive in Nelson...

    The LaRue County Hawks packed a meaty offensive effort and focused on their defense in a preseason scrimmage against Nelson County Friday night in Bardstown.

    Nelson County, returning 22 seniors and 34 juniors, starts the season with a new coach and different mindset from last year. The team is running more of a spread offense - just the kind of offense Hawks Coach Rodney Armes had in mind to prepare his football team for the upcoming year.

  • Youth football leagues hold...

    LaRue County Youth Football will have a last chance registration for tackle (grades 3-6) and flag (kindergarten-grade 2) football teams tonight.

    The signups are set from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Interested players need to attend registration for fitting of equipment.

    Registration fee is $55 for tackle and $30 for flag.

  • Mather family honored for...

    A month after Donald and Lahoma Mather celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, the two went their separate ways.

    Lahoma had knee replacement surgery and was homebound as she recovered. Days afterward - and just after his 80th birthday, Donald went to Lexington to compete in the Bluegrass State Games. Their large extended family banded together and decided that some would stay at home and care for Lahoma while the others would travel to Lexington to support Donald.

  • Hawks make changes for new...

    Despite last year’s 4-7 record, coach Rodney Armes and his coaching staff have a lot of energy heading into LaRue County High School football season.

    Offense-wise, the Hawks lost eight seniors to graduation, but the returning underclassmen were 8-0 in junior varsity competition.

    Defense has been changed to defend the passing game – a weakness shown against district foes Marion and Bullitt East last season.

  • 9-year-old finds success in golf...

    Having won one summer tournament and placing second in three others, 9-year-old Cameron Lasley of Hodgenville finished seventh overall in the final standings of the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour.

    The fourth grader claimed top honors at the Charlie Vettiner Golf Course in Louisville June 10, finishing with a 69. He was only two strokes away from victory, firing a 48 at the Sun Valley Golf Course in Louisville July 2.

    A member of LaRue County High School’s golf team, Lasley has played the links since he was three years old.

  • Blaze wins Wolverine Classic

    The Kentucky Blaze 8U baseball team won Wolverine Classic 8U Baseball Tournament in Frankfort. The Blaze defeated Jessamine County in the championship game 7-2 going 6-0 for the tournament, bringing their season record to 20-2. Team member Jacob Gentry is from Hodgenville.

  • LaRue sweeps North Hardin in...

    In the first two days of the high school volleyball season, LaRue County has recorded  two wins.

    The Lady Hawks followed up Monday night's win over Taylor County with a 25-13, 25-13 sweep of North Hardin, the alma mater of LaRue County second-year coach Ben Schell.
