  • KHSAA plans to redraw district...

    The Kentucky High School Athletics Association has issued a draft plan to redraw district alignments in football for the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.

    In a letter to superintendents, athletic directors and coaches, KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said school enrollment data for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 years was averaged to place schools in the six classes.

    The new alignment would put 31 schools in Class 6A (the largest); 51 in Class 5A; 38 in Class 4A; 41 in Class 3A; 40 in Class 2A; and 33 in Class 1A.

    Tournament host Bardstown Bethlehem scored on a penalty kick 15 minutes in, and the rout was on.

    Bethlehem scored four more goals en route to a 5-0 win over LaRue County in the 9th District Tournament semifinals at Lally Field in Bardstown.

  • Lady Hawks' soccer season...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks’ fourth season of varsity soccer came to a close Sunday with a 5-0 loss to the Bardstown Bethlehem Banshees in the 9th District Tournament quarterfinals at Bullitt East.

    Bethlehem (12-7-2) led 1-0 with less than a minute to play in the first half before tacking on a goal shortly before halftime and three more in the second half.

    Bethlehem outshot the Lady Hawks, 16-2 as LaRue County sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Wells made nine saves.

  • Lady Hawks begin region play...

    Here are the pairings for the 5th Region volleyball tournament, which starts Monday at LaRue County.

    The host Hawks (26-10) open the tournament at 6 p.m. Monday against Marion County (28-8), followed by Nelson County (23-7) v. Elizabethtown (29-10) at 7:30 p.m.

  • Meredith plays in State Golf...

    LaRue County junior Kyle Meredith has qualified for the Leachman/KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament.

    Meredith carded a 75 at the boys’ 5th Region Tournament last week at the Lincoln Trail Country Club.

    “I didn’t think I had a chance,” Meredith said. “I’m just amazed. I just want to go and do my best (at State) and represent LaRue County.”

    The state tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club. The top two teams and top three individuals not on the top two teams made the state tournament.

  • Lady Hawks tie last season&...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks volleyball team tied a school record with its win Sept. 30 over Campbellsville. The ladies have won 25 games this season, tying the record they set last year.

    The homestanding Lady Eagles (2-13) were trounced 25-12 and 25-16.

    For LaRue County, Brea Huhn had 10 kills; Lauren Patterson had four kills; Molly Kennedy had 13 assists and five kills; Haley Holt had two kills and three blocks; and Cassady Crim had two digs.

    Coach Ben Schell was excited about the win against the Lady Eagles.

  • Billy Meredith tops at Bluegrass...

    Billy Meredith of Hodgenville won the Bob Jones Tribute for the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman division Saturday at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown.

    Meredith and Pat Hagan battled for the biggest part of the 20-lap distance, with Meredith keeping Hagan at bay to pick up the $400.

    Hagan settled for runner-up honors with Avral Thompson claiming third. Roger Cecil would take fourth, while Tracy Hack would score a fifth place effort. Completing the top ten were Sam Mull, Elton Martin, Tim Cummings, Barry Chesser and Rob Jones.

  • Meredith competes at State

    LaRue County junior Kyle Meredith competed in the two-day Leachman/KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament.

    Meredith carded an 89 on Friday at Bowling Green Country Club. The cut was set at 80.

    He carded a 75 at the boys’ 5th Region Tournament the prior week at the Lincoln Trail Country Club. The top three individuals – including Meredith – not on the top two teams made the state tournament.

    Meredith is the first LaRue County golfer to qualify for State since Cory Cox in 2004.
