  • Lyndsay Whitlock honored for 1,...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks defeated 18th District rival Green County in a nail-biter Feb. 1.

    LaRue jumped out to a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Green chipped away at the basket, scoring 22 points to LaRue’s 19. Halftime saw the Lady Hawks ahead 34-28. The score seesawed in the second half with the Lady Hawks winning 50-48.

    The win gave the young team a much-needed boost, said head coach Travis Wootton.

  • Cheerleaders honored for GPA at...

    LaRue County High School cheerleaders received individual recognition at the 5th Region KAPOS competition Jan. 16.

    Savannah Hines was named to All-Academic Team and received a plaque for highest senior GPA.

    Leeann Carothers, Hines, Niccole Carter, Olivia Dulak, Kim Swears, Whitney Graham, Whitney McDowell and Whitney Heath earned academic honors for having greater than a 3.0 GPA.

    The squad took home the large squad championship for the region and will compete for a state title Feb. 20 at Diddle Arena, Bowling Green.

  • Canter honored for 400th win

    LaRue County High School’s wrestling team, under Fifth Region Hall of Fame head coach Gary Canter’s mentorship, has notched yet another national milestone, grabbing its 400th duals victory.

    “Very few coaches in the country, let alone the state, reach this milestone,” said David Dawson, LCHS athletic director. “By reaching this number of wins, Gary has gone into the top 100 all-time coaches in the history of high school wrestling.”

  • Soccer Boosters collect cans

    The LaRue County High School Soccer Boosters are collecting aluminum cans to pay for practice equipment. The cans can be dropped off at booster meetings 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at LCHS.

  • LCHS girls out of tournament

    The Lady Hawks girls' varsity basketball season ended abruptly Monday night. In the first-round of the 18th District Tournament, Green County beat LaRue County 59-46.

    Hart County defeated tournament host Caverna 74-56 in the upper bracket game.

    The winners meet for the girls' district championship at 6 p.m. Friday.

    LaRue's season ends with a record of 14-13.

  • Middle schoolers split games

    The LaRue County Middle School basketball teams split a pair of games Jan. 26 against Green County.

    The seventh graders were outgunned 62-29 while the eighth graders battled to a one-point win after the Dragons missed a desperation shot at the buzzer.

  • Hawks record second win vs. Green

    For the second time in four days, LaRue County’s boys’ varsity basketball team played Green County on Feb. 8. This time in Greensburg, the Hawks came away victorious again with a 63-48 victory, closing the district portion of their schedule at 6-0.

    The Hawks entered the game with the top seed in the District Tournament in hand.

  • Mat Hawks aim for state title

    When the season started, they were young, hungry and looking to make a name for themselves. With one week left in the season, these LaRue County Mat Hawks are young and hungry but have made a name for themselves and looking to end the season with the school’s first-ever KHSAA state championship.

    “We have set ourselves up to make a run at we have been preparing for all year long,” says the Mat Hawks’ 215-pound wrestler, Drew Newberry.

    LaRue County ended the girls' varsity season Wednesday with a 64-61 loss to Washington County.

    It was the Lady Hawk's third loss in the last four games..

    LaRue will enter next week's 18th District Tournament with a 14-12 record.

    The tournament will be played at Caverna High School. The Lady Hawks face Green County (18-9) in a first-round game which will determines a berth in the 5th Region Tournament. The game is schedule for 7 p.m. Monday.

    It will be preceded at 5:30 p.m. by Caverna's game with Hart County.
