  • Hawks go 3-2 during Florida...

    The LaRue County Hawks baseball team went 3-2 during spring break as they competed at the Florida Beach Bash in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

    Caldwell clobbered

    Sophomore Slade Owens scattered three hits and two walks in five innings to lead the Hawks to a 12-3 win April 5 over Caldwell County. He struck out two and didn’t allow a run.

    Sophomore Kyle Sheeran had three singles, an RBI and a run scored, while Owens had two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Hawks.

  • Hawks back on top with win over...

    After back-to-back losses to John Hardin (4-3) and Barren County (11-10), LaRue County Coach Chris Price was glad to put one in the win column March 29 against the North Hardin Trojans 9-1. 

  • Lady Hawks win two before...

    At the beginning of the season, the Lady Hawks listed a few goals: To protect the home field, concentrate for the full game and dominate when the opportunity arises. 

    The team took care of business March 29 when the Lady Commanderettes visited Hodgenville. The Lady Hawks overwhelmed Washington County 16-3 in five innings.

  • Hawks open season with wins over...

    In their first game of the season, the LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team defeated the Caverna Colonels 12-1 in five innings at Horse Cave March 22. 

    “It was a good win to start the year,” Coach Chris Price said. “We are just trying to get better. We made a lot of mistakes tonight but they were mistakes that you make when you don’t have a lot of experience. None of these guys have much varsity experience. We just want to see progress.”

    Price said the defense was “fair but needs to improve.”

  • Zajdel wins triple jump contest...

    The LaRue County Hawks boys track and field team placed seventh and the girls placed 13th in the 17-team meet March 20 at Kenwood High School in Clarksville, Tenn.

    Truman Padgett led the way with a victory in the 400-meter with a time of 51.8 seconds. He also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.9 seconds.  Other high finishers were Tyler Davenport finishing second in the shotput with a throw of 44’ 11”; and Shana Zajdel with a third place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 29’ 10”. 

  • Tennis teams open season with...

    The LaRue County High School tennis teams opened the 2010 season in a winning fashion with the boys’ team defeating Meade County 4-1; Bardstown Bethlehem 5-0; John Hardin 5-0; and Bardstown 5-0.

    The girls’ team defeated Meade County 3-2; Bardstown Bethlehem 4-1; and Bardstown 4-1; and lost to John Hardin 1-4.

    Top singles players Dylan Parr and Michelle Seymour had stellar performances, going undefeated in play.

  • Lady Hawks show no mercy to...

    The Lady Hawks – in a return to their glory days of fast-pitch softball – started the season ready to play in a two-and-a-half innings shellacking of rival Elizabethtown Lady Panthers. The team combined for nine hits and 18 runs to win 18-1 March 22 at Lady Hawk Field. 

  • Lady Hawks freshman team...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks freshman softball team finished the first week of the 2010 season with two close losses and two convincing wins.

    On March 24, the Lady Hawks traveled to Nelson County to face an experienced Cardinal team in doubleheader action, losing 3-1 and 10-8. March 27, the Lady Hawks hosted the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs and defended their home field in convincing fashion, winning 7-2 and 13-0 (three innings).

    Coach Dean R. Miller said he was very pleased with the effort both days.

  • Tennis teams benefit from...

    LaRue County High School’s tennis teams have come into their own as regional powers in the past few seasons.

    The boys and girls squads have a combined 129-34 won-lost record over the past five years. Nine individuals have advanced to the state tournament. The conference champion boys’ team claimed its first-ever regional title last season. The girls were runners-up in both conference and region.

    Coach Chris Estes was named coach of the year in 2007 and 2008.
