    Cornhole fundraiser for wrestling

    A cornhole tournament and chili supper will be Dec. 4 in the LCMS cafeteria with proceeds going to the LaRue County Middle School wrestling program. Sign up is 6-7 p.m. Tournament begins at 7:30 p.m. Supper costs $5 and begins at 6 p.m. Includes drink and dessert. Awards and 30 percent payback. For more information, call 234-4920 or 358-9014.

  • Beginners' wrestling clinic...

    Youth wrestling sign-ups and a beginners' clinic for first-year wrestlers (ages 5-12) will be noon-4 p.m. Nov. 28 at the LaRue County High School wrestling room. The clinic begins at  12:30 p.m. Wrestlers should bring shorts and T-shirt, wrestling shoes (if you have them), a towel and water bottle. 

    Returning wrestlers may sign up that day.

  • Mat Hawks win first tournament

    The LaRue County Middle School Mat Hawks hosted a preview tournament Saturday. The team had top score (232 points) over second place North Hardin (224 points). Trinity Shamrock Wrestling Club took third; Bluegrass Middle was fourth. They were followed by University Heights Academy, Meade County, Caldwell County, Barren County and Central Hardin.

    It was first year head coach Dan Heady’s first tournament and many of his Mat Hawks are first year wrestlers.

  • Hawks kick off season at Blue/...

    Hawk fans enjoyed a night of fun and excitement at Friday’s fourth annual Blue/White Night. This was a time for fans to get a preview of the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

    The festivities kicked off with the LaRue County Middle School and High School cheerleaders performing competition routines and introduction of the middle school basketball teams.

  • Hawks eliminated from football...

    For the second time this season, Marion County defeated the LaRue County Hawks. Friday night's 41-14 playoff loss eliminated LaRue from postseason play.

    The Hawks finish the season at 7-5. Coach Rodney Armes' team had lost a regular season district meeting Oct. 16 by a score of 33-7.

    LaRue opened the Class 4A playoffs last weekend with a 35-32 victory over Valley. Marion County reached the second round with a 64-14 win over Breckinridge County.

  • LaRue runners compete in state...

    Michelle Seymour finished 58th in the state Class AA girls' cross country meet Saturday. In the boys' contest, Ryan Durbin came in 72nd.

    The LaRue County runners qualified in the state competition at the Kentucky Horse Park based on their top finishes in the regional competition the previous weekend.

    Seymour, a sophomore, recorded a time of 22:33.98 in the five-kilometer event. The event was won by Jenna Rogers of Christian Academy in Louisville with a time of 19:28.12. South Oldham won the team title.

  • Hawks’ playoff hopes...

    No matter what the LaRue County Hawks tried Friday night, they couldn’t get their running game going against the Marion County Knights.

    LaRue County, which entered the second round of the Class 4-A playoffs averaging 280 yards a game on the ground, was held to 104 yards in a 41-14 loss to Marion County in Lebanon.

    “We couldn’t get the ball going,” LaRue County senior fullback Ryan Wafford said. “We just weren’t getting a good push, and that went over to the defense, which was on the field a lot.”

  • Basketball teams, cheerleaders...

    LaRue County High School basketball fans are invited to a preview of the upcoming season Friday.

    Blue/White Night begins with a fundraiser chili supper 5:30-7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The meal is $5 and includes chili, sandwich, drink and desserts.

    At 7 p.m., varsity, JV, freshman and middle school basketball players will be introduced in the gym.

    The varsity Hawks and Lady Hawks will have intrasquad scrimmages.

  • Seymour leads LaRue girls'...

    Led by Michelle Seymour's fourth-place finish, LaRue County's girls' cross country team qualified for the state meet this weekend at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

    In addition to the girls' success, Ryan Durbin again earned a spot in the boys' state meet. While the team finish eighth and failed to qualify, Durbin finished the course at Chalybeate Springs Park with a time of 18:14, which was fifth overall.
