A volleyball skills camp for girls in grades 5-8 will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 17 in the LaRue County Middle School gym. Cost is $40 for camp and light lunch.

Good outside shooting from senior Christian Seymour and some timely late baskets from Tyler Hornback led the LaRue County Hawks to defeat the Central Hardin Bruins. The win brought the Hawks to 12-0 for the season.

Seymour buried 5-of-7 3-pointers and Hornback scored seven fourth-quarter points as the host Hawks held off the Bruins, 58-48 in the championship game of the eight-team National Guard Holiday Classic.

The Lady Hawks (5-4) lost their second game in as many days in the Campbellsville University/Coca-Cola Holiday Classic on Dec. 30. LaRue’s loss came at the hands of Taylor County, 50-37.

Sophomore guard Valerie Whitlock paced LaRue County with 15 points, while eighth-grade guard Anna Bowling chipped in with 14 points.

Sophomore guard Lyndsay Whitlock added six points and five rebounds.

The Lady Hawks led 25-24 at the half before being out-pointed 15-8 and 10-4 in the final two frames.

LaRue County’s Lady Hawks put on runs of 6-2 and 9-2 in the second quarter to pull away from a pesky Blackburn team from Australia 56-33 in the first round of the Holiday Classic at Campbellsville High over the weekend.

Valerie Whitlock hit two three-pointers in the third frame and cemented a solid 46-24 lead.

“I knew we’d be a bit sluggish,” said LaRue Coach Travis Wootton. “We haven’t played in a week.”

But Wootton was pleased with his team’s domination in the third quarter.
